Many countries have their own rules for how e-invoices must be issued, received, reported and stored. To meet these rules, Tradeshift works with specialised compliance partners in some countries. Receiving or sending e-invoices in these countries may involve additional fees for the local services required.
Key terms
Clearance
The tax authority must receive and approve each invoice electronically, before or while it is exchanged between buyer and seller. The invoice is only valid once cleared.
Post-audit
Invoices are exchanged directly between buyer and seller without real-time approval from the tax authority. Businesses must keep the invoices in a way that proves their authenticity and integrity, so the tax authority can check them later.
Outbound (AR)
The supplier side. Covers sending the invoice to the tax authority (or its designated platform) and receiving the approval needed to issue, cancel or correct it.
Inbound (AP)
The buyer side. Covers checking that a received invoice is authentic, complete and has been cleared by the tax authority.
Legal archiving
Long-term, compliant storage of e-invoices, so they stay unchanged and readable for the retention period required by local law.
Plateforme Agréée (PA)
In France, a platform accredited by the tax administration (DGFiP) to send and receive e-invoices and share invoice data with the tax authority. From 1 September 2026, French businesses must receive e-invoices through a PA. Tradeshift is an accredited PA.
